LIDIA is a multidisplinary research group of the Department of Computer Science of the University of A Coruña (Spain) working in topics  related with theoretical and applied aspects of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning from 1990.

Personnel:

The group is formed by personnel of the UDC, in its majority doctors, in addition to computer science engineers contracted position of projects of investigation and Ph.D. alumni accomplishing its thesis. It has two research laboratories, the first one iis at the Faculty of Computer Science  of the UDC and the another is at the Research Center in Technologies of the Information and Comunicaciones (CITIC). During the last three years, the LIDIA group has managed more than 10 projects of financed investigation of national and autonomic scope with more than 640.000 euros and it has participated in several projects with companies. The relation with the enterprises has been favored in addition by the transference to contracted and investigating.

Resources:

The group has its own computing resources, and communications infrastructure of the Universidade da Coruña that supports RedIRIS. The hardware equipment includes 18 PC desktop PC, 1 application server, 2 network drives, 3 laser printers and 1 server backup. The software equipment consists of some own developed programs, desktop applications and development environments for algorithm programming, data visualization, data analysis and numerical computation. It has access to digital library resources, both databases or libraries, through the consortium of libraries in the Spanish public universities.

Technological Capabilities:

The group works mainly in the area of the Artificial intelligence. In this field it maintains several lines of theoretical investigation:

  • Machine Learning algorithms.
  • Techniques for software usability and validation.

We develop computer science solutions to complex problems in as diverse areas as:

    • Predictive maintenance for mechanical systems.
    • Control in Industrial processes.
    • Design in civil engineering.
  • Socioeconomics and Enviromental Science:
    • Predictive systems for forest fire assessment.
    • Management of extinction resources.
    • Support to the decision in the management and coordination of limited resources.
  • Health:
    • Aid to the decision for the prescription and customized supervision of physical activity.
